What happens at a community hub?

The whole idea of a community hub is to create a relax and welcoming environment for the community to come, connect and share. Timetables change weekly but we love to have different charities and services to visit e.g. Citizens Advice, PACT for Autism, Library Service, Resident Involvement Team. ATF have access to food vouchers and support for those in need. We can also help with exploring options for practical support, free counselling, signposting and referrals to agencies.

Kelly, ATF “In life it is really important to focus on the small things - this is where real difference is made, you never know what a friendly cup of coffee could lead to! If you feel nervous about attending for the first time please let us know because we’d love to see you”

Parent Quotes:

“Janet Duke Community Hub has been amazing for me! Through attending the Hub and with thanks to ATF, I have been able to get support through Robyn at the Basildon Resident Involvement Team to help me with difficulties with my housing application. In just a few months, I have seen a huge difference in how responsive the Housing Team has been to my e-mails and telephone calls and I am well on my way to securing permanent accommodation for me and my little girl. Thank you, ATF and the Resident Involvement Team!”

“It was so great to see you all and meet Holly this week! Definitely going to be making use of the Borrow Box and Libby apps with all those FREE audio books and e-books! Can't wait to do my Winter Reading Challenge and jump on a few short courses in the new year too! Thanks for arranging for Holly to come in, Amber and ATF! I hope to see her again at some point”

“Honestly if there was ATF when me and my child went through everything we would have benefited so much from them and all the support they give”

Stories:

- Local resident in crisis dropped into the Janet Duke Community Hub. Visitor was able to open up about several struggles including debt, lack of support, likelihood of job loss. We were able to make referrals to Citizens Advice, Trussell Trust foodbank and donate a £15 ASDA voucher. Talked through how to access HAF clubs for their child and other free services. It is often hard for people to make this first step in seeking support but with the relaxed, welcoming environment at the community hub and a friendly face we can help support people through difficult times. Fast forward a few weeks and visitor has secured a new job and is in a much happier place. ATF are incredibly proud and very pleased to have been able to provide then encouragement and support needed. We are stronger together and do not have to face lives battles alone!

- Through the support of the Resident Involvement Team and ATF Visitor is now in a secure tenancy and extremely happy. They attend the community hub every week without fail, it has become an integrated part of their week, they have now expressed an interest to start volunteering with ATF.
